About the Book
In Nine Days to Evil, a call from Meredith Laughlin's husband propels her through nine horrendous days and into a snare that threatens her life. Conrad, a young doctor, calls her as he drives to outlying clinics near San Antonio, Texas. Caught in a storm, he cries out. She hears brakes screech, a crash, and the line goes dead. She calls authorities, but no accidents have been reported in the area.

Meredith, restless in her domestic role, has registered for graduate school. She puts her wishes aside, determined to find her husband.

Dr. Key Walker, Laughlin's competition for OB/GYN Department Chair, goes to Conrad's office to find clues to Conrad's route. He bumps into Alice Ryan, sent by Temp. Services to cover the office for Conrad's secretary. Alice seduced Key before he married Claire. Eager to avoid Alice, Key postpones his search.

Meredith enlists San Antonio Police Detective Sam Vanderhoven to find her husband. Detective Sam, who lost his family in a Chicago automobile accident, urges Meredith to start graduate school to secure at least one part of her future. Attracted to Meredith, Sam fights to remain professional while he searches for her husband.

Meredith, determined to hold herself and her life together, begins graduate school. She meets humorously cynical, forty-two year old Agatha Mundeen, her classmate in Abnormal Psychology and Shakespeare's Tragedies. Agatha takes a wry view of the subject matter, but Meredith is disturbed by what she learns and begins to doubt her husband and herself.

Meredith, Detective Sam, and Dr. Walker intensify efforts to find Dr. Laughlin. As Meredith gets closer to the truth, danger lurks: one friend is threatened, another is attacked, and Meredith is tormented by a stalker. Meredith is determined to find the truth, but one misstep will push her into the clutches of people who want her dead.

Beneath the surface tension moving this chilling, contemporary story are underlying bonuses:Meredith discovers that studying Shakespeare sheds light on her own tragedy; so the novel becomes an entertaining source for Shakespeare teachers and students.

As Meredith studies Abnormal Psychology, readers learn to perceive sociopathic traits in people who exhibit inexplicable behavior. The novel is great source material for counselors helping people to recognize and deal with sociopaths.

The novel fascinates, both for its mystery and its engaging characters. Meredith, Agatha, and Detective Sam will reappear in the author's next novel, Forever Fatal.
