About the Book
|
The
phone broke my nightmare. I had forgotten to turn it off before crawling
into bed last night.
Normally, I'd let voice mail answer it. But Wendy was on my mind.
"Hello," I said, shaking.
"Gina. Carolyn's missing. Is she with you?"
"Wendy, what do you mean she's missing?" I did not want a repeat of
the past.
"I haven't seen her since last night at dinner. We finished around
nine, and Carolyn said she was going up to her room, review some material
and go to bed. That was the last I saw of her. I called her room this
morning when she didn't show up for breakfast."
"Oh, God. Don't you dare suggest what I was just dreaming about."
"Gina, what was that?"
"The morning you called me about Donna."
"You were having a nightmare," Wendy said.
"Listen, I'll call a friend of mine. He's a private detective. We'll
find her.
Don't worry."
"Why do you need a detective?" Wendy asked.
"To find Carolyn," I said. "And maybe for protection. You have to
get out of that hotel."
