About the Book
Forty years of traveling around the world have culminated in The 23-Hour Day. What started as notes to friends and family grew into more detailed descriptions. The pages accumulated until there were enough to justify a book.

The trips recounted include those to Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Belize, Croatia, Botswana, Egypt, the Galapagos and Ecuador, Great Britain, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, Spain, and South Africa, not to mention the American Southwest.

The focus of these trips is the countryside and the people. Cities are seldom destinations but rather are gateways to the country. Descriptions of hikes take up many pages; descriptions of museums and churches are very rare. Nary a disco is mentioned.

The 23-Hour Day is written with humor, a few tirades, and some acute observations.

About the Author
After four years in the military, Omar DeWitt earned two degrees in philosophy. Much to his surprise, no one wanted to hire philosophers, and he worked in publishing before following his wife into teaching (vacation time for travel). Early retirement to New Mexico gave even more time for travel.
