About the Book
|
Sam Williams Huff turned down modeling contracts and guaranteed entrance to college to enlist in the Army straight out of high school and go to Iraq as a "boots on the ground", front-line soldier.
The beautiful, spirited, petite young woman had a passion for the military life, and quickly became an exemplary soldier. After only ten weeks on the front lines, she was nominated for the honor of "Soldier of the Month" by her team leader. Before she could win that accolade, however, her dreams ended when a roadside bomb took her life in a horrific incident that changed the way field medical and rescue operations are conducted by American soldiers in Iraq.
American Daughter - The Sam Huff Story is the portrait of an extraordinary person, told in the words of her family, friends, teachers, and the soldiers who lived and served with her in Iraq.
The biography begins with the fond memories of her daycare provider and ends with her sergeant's heartbreaking description of how he held the dying young soldier in his arms as her life faded away during a desperate race to a field hospital. This book chronicles her life, a life lived joyfully and with dedication, humor, a positive attitude, and love in her heart for everyone she knew.
Sam Huff was a born leader who rose to her own potential in every possible way. She led her high school band as drum major, band conductor, and flute player; she was admired and loved by numerous friends; and she showed strength, determination, and grit as a Military Police officer in the United States Army.
Sam was given a true hero's funeral. She was buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. At the time of her death, Sam Williams Huff was 18 years old.
