About the Book
Fun and Retirement are assumed to be one and the same.

This is a collection of light-hearted, witty, yet informative, articles about seniors and retirement living.

They are written for the SENIOR WIRE NEW SERVICE, the nation's leading syndication of news, information and features for mature market publications. Over 50 papers nationwide, as well as Canada and India, currently pick up the WIRE's articles for publication.

In addition, there are tad bits of useful, if not useless, information to enhance the FUN in RETIREMENT: Dreams, Fantasies, Facts, Jokes, and Elucidations that have come from semi-scientific papers, true stories told by a liar, personal experiences as logged and blogged on the Internet and passed on as remedies and antidotes for the human condition … and just plain-old made-up stuff.

How to Have Fun with Retirement? First, you must read this book, which is overloaded with absurdity as well as helpful hints. It is best to read it while sitting under a tree or on the bank of a whispering flow of water, relaxed and prepared to chuckle. If you don’t have a nearby creek or tree, turn on the faucet in your kitchen sink and sit next to the avocado plant or cactus scrub.

By definition, FUN is a time or feeling of enjoyment or amusement, and RETIREMENT is the status of a worker who has stopped working. These two definitions go in concert like popcorn and butter. In other and simpler terms, retirement must be like buying admission to tour an amusement park, and not paying the toll to travel on another expressway. The opposite of work has always been fun. Fun also is known by several aliases, such as enjoyment, pleasure, joy, entertainment, merriment, and it is absolutely the opposite of boredom.

This book will help you make the transition.

It is quite a shock to wake up that first Monday morning and realize you did not bounce out of bed, shoved out by the shrieking scream or disc-jockey chatter from your alarm clock, and you realize you can ecstatically flip it into the trashcan if you wish.

Life has changed, will change, and so must you. There are so many alternatives and choices. You have thought them out and through and inside out & round about … you are sure you have, but when that first glorious day off comes, that first Monday not at work, and especially the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday that follow, your new life style starts to hit the panic button – and here is a sample of a few articles that may help:

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda; Packrat Assets: The Body’s Worth; Seventh Sense of Seniors; Hunting the Elusive Hobby; Oh, Am I Driving?; A Second Heartbeat; Walking Excursions; and many more.

You can probably tell by the titles that they are serious subjects, with a slanted perspective.

Nothing but entertaining activities and Clarabell the Clown smiles from now on.

Come along for the ride, and enjoy the read.
