Nine local writers in the wine country town of Healdsburg, California, participated in a workshop that sent them all over town to observe and write about places of community interest. A few chose the town plaza, others the animal shelter, the police station, the cemetery, and the many shops and eateries and churches located between the plaza and the lush surrounding vineyards. A "literary walkabout" on the back cover connects the individual pieces with their physical locations.
Although the participants were and are inordinately fond of the town, they did not write with the intent of promoting Healdsburg: their contributions and points of view, whether in poetry or prose, are frequently quirky or irreverent.
Lovers of small town life and the literature it produces will enjoy A Day in the Life of Healdsburg.
Kudos to Batja Cates, Laurel Cook, Armando Davila, Vilma Ginzberg, Simon Jeremiah, Rhiannon Paine, Chris Peasley, Scott Reid, and the late Doug Stout, Healdsburg's first of its now five "literary laureates." The collection contains photographs by local residents Ray Degischer and Lucas Taylor. All profits support the work of the Healdsburg Literary Guild.

I think I want to move to Healdsburg! What a clever idea; I have been so rewarded. Thank you, over and over again for sharing such a precious community with me.
- From Sue Emerson of Virginia, who has never seen Healdsburg
I love everything about this book, the stories, poems, pictures. Whenever I am bored, I read it, and feel like I’m in your sweet little town again. It takes care of my homesickness for you.
- From Elsie A. Voorhees of New Jersey, who has visited Healdsburg

Contributors to A Day in the Life of Healdsburg are local Sonoma County writers who participated in a workshop that sent them around town to write about their community. Each writer chose a different place to observe and describe, some in poetry, some in prose. |
