About the Book
|
This is the story of a girl and her guitar. Shirley overcame childhood illness to begin a career in music, singing and dancing on the street corner at the age of four to help earn money for her family. As a girl of 14, she left home with her grandmother to work on the radio in Kansas City, Missouri. It would be there that she would acquire the Little Martin guitar that would be her constant companion.
With her Little Martin, Shirley's career would blossom. Shirley would, over a period of time, become not only a singer, but a survivor, songwriter, radio personality, television artist, and published author.
This is also a story about life. It is the story of poverty and success, of love and loss, of pain and forgiveness, of wanting to succeed and falling short, and of needing and asking for and receiving God's help. It is also about the importance of a Grandma whose love and encouragement came without condition.
