About the Book
|
Catawampus is a 60's coming-of-age story driven by the premonition od an alcoholic father that his eldest son would play professional baseball, the slow, inexorable descent of the mother into emotional illness and the author's role as only sibling and chronicler. It is, nonetheless, a tale of triumpth inderscored by humor and the sustenance of family and friends.
The author's journey is shown through the prism of life in both Appalachia and the big city and continues through high school and college in the Deep South as well as service in the military during the Vietnam era.
