About the Book
|
Imagine
what would happen if a rough-shod crew of loggers discovered that
the mushrooms growing underfoot in the woods, mushrooms as ancient
as the primeval forest itself, had strange and wonderful aphrodisiacal
properties...
CAN you imagine?
THE FIRST TREE is the story of a young man's coming
of age in such a universe. Here is a book that tells it the way it
is, while breathing life into the sweaty world of crew bosses and
working men.
The hero is Tom Lacey, a university student set adrift by tragedy
who ends up working in the woods. Whence Tom's adventures (and
a host of hilarious misadventures) begin.
THE FIRST TREE deals with environmental devastation
and human renewal. The plot reels from coast to coast, and thickens
with wild hijinks and a glimpse into the ancient world.
The message is uncompromising -- yet it wears a human face. Toss in
a poignant love story and you have the makings of an unforgettable
first novel.
Get ready to laugh -- and cry.
